Mural Kitchen
Painting help needed to cover bright, nasty colors!?

We are buying a house with nasty yellow/green paint in kitchen & livingroom, & mural of a tree behind a stone wall in the staircase leading to the basement. We would like to paint each room a solid color (white in the kitchen, soft brown in the livingroom, and ANY color going downstairs). We can’t afford to spend too much time or money on paint, and need to paint all 3 “rooms” in the 3 days before our furniture arrives. I’m sure we’ll need a primer and 2-3 coats of paint, but are there any shortcuts? Are certain brands better than others at covering in 1-2 coats? Are the Kilz colors (the kind you can buy at Wal-mart) any good? Any advice would help! Thanks!

Painted over a navy blue textured sitting area recently. We used Kilz primer sealer, then (due to the rough painting surface) two coats of a dusty mauve. Personally, I’ve found that the Kilz colors work just as well as the more expensive brands and as I’ve used them in Laundry/kitchen areas, I’m more than pleased with the washability.
